Spring Classes For Children
Please note: ALL material fees for children classes are included in tuition price.
MONDAYS
Drawing and Painting With Donna age 5 and up, 4-5:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $180 tuition)
Learn and Develop Technical Drawing skills, Color Theory, Art History and Vocabulary while creating work that will challenge and engage artists of all ages.
WEDNESDAYS
Junior Mask Making for age 7 and up, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $180 tuition)
Learn about masks from all around the world while making exciting masks of your own to wear in acts of culture. Professional mask making secrets are revealed by master mask maker, Jeff Semmerling.
Spring Art Camp for Children

Tuition $180 for 5 days, $115 for 3 days or $40 per day
Imagine making fun art all day. Never more than 12 students per camp means individual attention from professional artists. Fun, Cooperative & Inspiring!

Monday, March 5, 2012 (Pulaski Day): Our Favorite Things at the Art Institute Field Trip, 10 – 2 p.m.
($45 per child, parents can join for free)
Explore the Art Institute and learn all about art up-close-and-personal with Jeff and Donna Semmerling, artists who grew up with this collection. Bring a sack lunch and a sketch pad!

Spring Classes for Young Adults
MONDAYS
Introduction to Silk Screening for Teens, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $200 tuition)
Who needs Threadless or Etsy? Learn the necessary skills to create your own graphic t-shirts, accessories, and more with professional silk screening methods used by Andy Warhol. Students will learn various silk screening techniques including stenciling, photo emulsion, layering, and printing.
TUESDAYS
Beginner Mask Making, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $200 tuition)
Students learn fundamental mask construction, making masks in cardboard, Venetian style papier mache, found objects, and plaster gauze.
Intermediate Mask Making, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $200 tuition)
Start with casting your own face for two mask making matrices, then learn sculpting and casting your own creations in paper mache. Prerequisite: Beginner Mask Making or special permission with approved portfolio
Mask Making Studio (Advanced Mask Making), 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $200 tuition)
More experienced mask makers get involved with more expensive materials, develop their own tool kit, and pursue projects of their own with guidance from our resident master mask maker Jeff Semmerling. Prerequisite: Intermediate Mask Making or special permission with approved portfolio.
WEDNESDAYS
Introduction to Impasto Painting, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
(8 weeks, $200 tuition)
Explore the possibilities of paint, and learn how to manipulate texture and create dramatic surfaces. Impasto technique was used by artists from Rembrandt and van Gogh to Gerhard Richter. Students will work with different painting mediums including wax medium, modeling paste, and gel medium.
Spring Classes for Adults
8 week session, (on going, join at any time)
$200 per 8 week session or $30 per class (drop-in by appointment)

SHAPING LEATHER MASKS
June 2 - 3 ~ 1:00PM to 4:30 PM
Learn the Semmerling and Schaefer methods for shaping leather masks. For twenty years Jeff and Sonja have perfected the craft. You will make and finish two to three leather masks and leave with a list of sources for materials and tools.
Tuition is $200 all materials included.
