Our teachers are professional artists and art educators who are invested in providing quality classes that produce noticeable results. Imagination, creativity and enjoyment are all combined in projects that develop art vocabulary, knowledge of art history and technical skills.

Like many good things, art comes from the inside out.

    Columbus Day October 13th, November 7th, Veterans Day November 11th 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, before & aftercare available.

    At Art Camp, kids age 5 and up spend the whole day making and learning about art while sharpening their skills. Bring a lunch!

    “By the Seat of Your Baggy Pants,”Masks and Physical Comedy!

    Join us for a fun, action filled workshop in mask performance. Our featured performance artist, Jacob Mills, will showcase his collection of over 25 masks from around the world. Through the mask, unleash and explore the comic vitality of physical comedy, Vaudeville, and Circus. For the skilled performer or interested novice, these skills will improve your understanding of performance, presence, and public speaking.

    The shows are preceded by a workshop with a pro from the show. This Fall, Jacob Mills “Behind the Mask” will train you in mask performance. From 1:30 to 2:30 PM~ All Ages $5.

    Costume Con!

    Artists and craftspeople who make their own masks, hats and costumes will show their work at this Mask and Costume Market! Find just the right handmade thing to wear this Halloween or just the right artist to make it for you. Hosted by Inside Out Art Studio and Mask Shop!

    As part of Chicago Artists’ Month we will remount some of your favorite bits and skits from our first two shows and have a special guest or two.

    October 12th, 7:00 PM ~ Kids and Seniors $5 ~ Adults $10

    November 15 & 16 ~ 1:00 to 4:30 PM

    Learn the Semmerling and Schaefer methods for shaping leather masks. You will make and finish three to four leather masks and leave with sources for materials and tools.
    Tuition is $300 all materials included.

Do you have a group of friends interested in painting/ drawing/ puppetry/ mask making/ cartooning/ action figure making/ or fashion design? We can make a special class just for you. Up to 8 weeks, once a week or one day workshops. We can be very flexible. We also offer one on one work with our artists for all ages (5 to 105). We conduct explorations in art for special needs artists of all ages as well. Call the studio and we’ll work out a plan to challenge your skills, learn and accomplish your goals. The above link takes you to a website and video montage of Jeff Semmerling’s 2008 project funded by the Oppenheimer Family Foundation: Jeff created a 50 minute performance about the captivating power of masks and how they function in cultures the world over. You can book this show in conjunction with workshops in making masks or performing in masks. After the show your audience can do a performance, exhibition or have a parade of their own.
